“The Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.” Exodus 33:11 (NKJV)
What is your relationship with God like? Do you walk with Him and talk to Him all throughout the day? Do you ask Him what He wants to do? Do you let Him do it with you and for you? Is He your Friend?
The Word says the Lord spoke to Moses “plainly,” “face to face,” “as a friend.” He even saw “the form of the Lord.” Numbers 12:6-8, Exodus 33:11.
Have you ever wondered what that would be like? To see Him and hear His voice plainly? What was so special about Moses that God set him apart from all His other servants that way?
For one thing,“he is faithful in all my house.” Numbers 12:7. Moses spent intimate, purposeful time alone with God, not just to ask God to provide for the needs of His people, but to listen to Him so he could obey Him. He didn’t want to lead God’s people his way. He wanted God Himself to lead His people.
And that is where Moses’ attribute that truly set him apart came in: “Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.” Numbers 12:3.
Do you want to see the Lord? Do you want to know Him intimately? To hear Him speak clearly? Then humble yourself before Him.
In earthly terms, Moses’ writing that about himself would be proud. But true humility isn’t putting yourself down, it’s agreeing with God. We need to stop making everything about what man thinks and rely only upon God. Exodus 4:1-17, Galatians 1:10. No matter what you believe or why you believe it, only what God says is truth. John 8:31-32, 42-47.
Humility is acknowledging every moment that you are in the presence of One greater than you. It is recognizing your lowly, sinful state in light of God Almighty’s vast holiness and perfection, and then bowing to His Sovereignty, submitting to Him entirely, depending on Him for everything, and surrendering all your thoughts, opinions, dreams, hopes, desires, everything to Him. Proverbs 22:4. Why? Because He loves you, because He is faithful, and because He knows best. In fact, He knows it all.
The humble man does not do things on his own. He does them together with God. Galatians 5:25. He and God are one in spirit because he isn’t just God’s servant; he’s God’s faithful friend. Hosea 2:16, John 15:13-15.
“Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream. Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. I speak with him face to face, even plainly, and not in dark sayings; and he sees the form of the Lord.” Numbers 12:6-8 (NKJV)
